CHOOSING YOUR WINDOW TREATMENTS
Having a good looking window treatment can enhance the whole room, so it’s worth taking the time to find the right one. This of course depends on your own personal taste as well as your budget, and the way the rest of the room is decorated.
What style appeals to your personally?
There are many window treatments available so it can be an overwhelming task to pick the one that will look “just right” in the room, so you need to ask yourself what type of widow treatment most appeals to you personally. Do you prefer the look of slim line blinds? They can look good in a contemporary room, but can also look a bit harsh and in need of another decorating element in a more traditional type of room. You might like to put some panels either side of the blinds to soften the look of them.
Fabric curtains may be more to your liking. There are lots of ways to decorate your windows using curtains. You can have sheers flanked by panels; cross-over sheers; tiers or some pretty cotton prints. You might want to look through some decorating magazines to find ideas using curtains as the window treatment if fabric is the type of covering that appeals to you.
Consider the current decor
Next, you need to consider the decor of the room the window treatment is being used in.
What is the predominant theme of the room? Would you class it as modern, contemporary, or traditional? In traditional types of rooms curtains always look good and there are many styles that would fit this decor. Panels; cross-overs; sheers or prints all suit a traditional decor.
If the style of the room is more modern, Roman blinds will go well with that type of decor. Roller blinds or shades also look good in rooms that have been decorated with modern furnishings.
What colors would suit the room?
Are there colors in the room that you would like to continue in the window treatments? Do you want to get something that blends in with the existing color on the walls or in the carpet so the window treatments bring the whole room together? Or would you prefer to choose a color from an accessory in the room, a color that might be in the cushions or lamp shade so the window treatment stands out a bit more?
Getting a color that will blend or contrast with those in the room shouldn’t be too much of a problem. Curtains come in a large range of colors and patterns and manufacturers of blinds have come a long way in developing a variety of colors and finishes to satisfy their customers decorating taste and style.
